Black Rose is a 25 year old collectively run not-for-profit library and bookshop. We run out of a radical space at 22 Enmore rd in Newtown, Sydney, Australia, with two other groups Tutu and Little Fish Art Gallery. The groups at 22 Enmore Rd have adopted a joint Safer Spaces Policy.
Our Mission
Our current aim is to provide radical media and literature to our local community. We also offer use of the space to progressive political community groups for meetings and/or events. A donation is requested and the collective decides on a case by case basis.
The Collective
Black Rose has been run by various groups of radical Sydneysiders (in various locations throughout the Inner West) for 25 years.
Black Rose is run collectively, that is, a group of people with similar interests and aims come together and make decisions based on a consensus model. No one is in charge and all the tasks we need to do to keep the shop open are shared amongst us, from cleaning to ordering books to staffing.
The collective is open and we are happy to welcome new members to help run and staff the space.
The collective meets Thursday nights at 6:30 pm in Black Rose.
If you'd like to get involved, but can't make Thursday night meetings, come to the Sunday meeting, send us an email or give us a call. We'll figure something out.
If you don't have time to volunteer, but would like to support Black Rose, please consider donating. We can always use the extra cash.
